We are excited to share with you that we are opening a
home for troubled young ladies. Our hope is that this home
will be a refuge and place of discipleship for them. We
believe that Jesus delivers from the bondage of sin and that
with
proper
discipleship we can transform the lives of these women.
The Lord has given us seven wonderful children: six of them daughters. Through the years we have taken many young girls into our home. This has given us the initial experience we believe we will need for this type of ministry.
Last year, feeling that we wanted to do something different, we sold our house on the Elk River. We traveled through the U.S. and the Baja visiting friends and ministries along the way. While in New Hampshire we were blessed to work with troubled young adults. Through this and our previous involvement serving in a maternity home we have become increasingly aware of the struggle many women face. We have also experienced the joy that comes with helping and discipling young people.
By the time we returned to Oregon the desire to start a ministry of this nature was firmly planted in our hearts. God has now laid in our laps the most perfect facility we could have dreamed of. We are grateful to Him as we see His plan unfolding.
After much searching we have found a perfect farm. It is on 14 acres about 10 miles out of Coquille. This makes us remote enough not to bother our neighbors or distract us with the cares of city life.
Our house is really more like a lodge, having 3800 square feet in two stories. The downstairs has two large bedrooms and a large bathroom. There is room for two more bedrooms and a family room.
The
upper story has a large master bedroom, this we hope to turn
into a small apartment for us and our two daughters. The
rest of the upstairs is an open floor plan with a great-room
and a large kitchen.
Both upper and lower stories open to two large porches and decks. These overlook a small creek which runs through the property.
We have about four acres of fenced
pasture with a three-stall barn. There is also a greenhouse
and a fenced area to begin our garden. These will not only
feed us, but will also provide ways for our disciples to
learn responsibility.
Also on the property is an older shop, the roof needs some work, but in time this will make a perfect room for projects of all kinds.
Finally, there are several RV hookups. In time we will need something more for guest quarters.
The property does need cleaning up, and there will be plenty of work to begin with. Nevertheless, we feel with the Lord’s help and the help of caring individuals, we can use this place as a refuge to disciple women for His glory.
We at Beth-haran are committed to a Christ centered rather than a problem centered ministry. Often the problems that these girls face are fertile ground for the Spirit of God to begin moving in their lives. Our hope is that through the example and guidance of our staff our students will be touched by His Spirit and desire His fruit in their own lives as well.
Our ministry is set up in a family setting where we eat, sleep, work, play and learn together.
Each day will have a full schedule which will include the following:
q
Bible study and
teaching: We will look to God’s Word for guidance and the
solutions to life’s problems.
q
Prayer and
worship: We will learn to depend on the Lord as our source
of strength and deliverance.
q
Fellowship: We
will work and fellowship with the church community.
q
Hard work: We
will work hard at home and in the community,
experiencing the satisfaction of being a needed
member of society.
q
Accountability:
We will hold each other accountable for attitudes and
actions and give more freedom as it is earned.
We have needs both for finances and for volunteers. If you would like to help us pray, and if He leads you, join us.
Need list:
See website for complete and up-to-date list.
We hope to move in by the end of February. We appreciate your prays for us as we begin building the ministry.
And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.
