The Beth-Haran Newsletter

Our search for Interns

Our ministry is to disciple young women who need help. In order to do so we need godly women of all ages who desire to minister to and disciple others even if they have no formal previous experience. An intern may come for a one-month trial period, after which she can make the decision as to whether or not she would like to commit for a full year with us. In our commitment to the student it is helpful for our intern to be willing to commit her life to the program for a year also.

An intern lives in the dorm with two students per room. She works, takes classes and joins in many of the activities with the students. Unlike the student however, she is not under coverage. She also has time off and receives a small stipend for her monthly expenses.

Along with all of us at Beth-haran, the intern herself is a student in the things of God. She will learn how to work with and disciple people in need. She will have the opportunity to develop leadership skills in daily life by humbly speaking into, holding accountable, leading by example and encouraging the students.

Many of you who receive our newsletter know of godly women who are looking for a place to serve. This may be the perfect opportunity. Come work with us and to put your faith into practice. We have seen firsthand how our own girls, serving at His Mansion as interns, grew and gained valuable skills that will affect the rest of their lives.

We invite you to pray and consider the possibility of taking a year out of your life to make a difference in the life of another.

A Big Thanks to our Volunteers

Hannah and I want to thank the many volunteers who have given sacrificially to help us clean, repair and move in. So here it goes -

Thank you!

Moving Update

We are happy to report that we have finally moved into our new home. The older couple from whom we purchased the property were very slow in moving out, and we (with our many volunteers) have spent a good deal of time helping them to move and clean up the place. We are still cleaning inside the house and on the grounds, as things here are in disarray. Another dumpster load needs still to be removed from the property. However, we are able to look underneath it all and ahead  to see the potential that time and elbow grease will create. Once things are clean, we will move in our items from storage and begin setting up schedules, classes, and getting things regulated.

We still plan to open in May. Our daughter, Sarah, will be arriving here from school in the middle of May. She will be able to help some with interning, but we are still looking for a full time intern. (See Our Search for Interns.)

We are also taking applications for students, but have decided to be set up and ready to go before we aggressively advertise. We do have our first prospective student at this time, who wants to come as soon as we open. J

In a nutshell, this is what we have been up to. We would like to thank all of you who have responded to our last newsletter. We cannot tell you how encouraging it is to hear from you and to have your support and prayers.

In Loving Memory of Wilma Avery

Recently, a very dear friend and supporter of our new ministry, Wilma Avery, at 76 years of age, went to be with the Lord.

Wilma was a blessing to our ministry. She showed us hospitality as we awaited our new move. She faithfully prayed for Beth-haran, gave us counsel, and was looking forward to helping us in the ministry.

She is survived by her husband, Harold, who is one of Jeff’s closest friends, and three children, who all have a passion for the Lord.

After her children had grown, she and her husband spent 10 years as missionaries to the Navajo Indians.

There was always a shining light in Wilma’s eyes, and a constant looking out to how she could bless others, that came from her love for our Savior.

She is sorely missed, however we know that our loss is heaven’s gain!

The Starfish

There is a story told of a Grandmother taking her grandson for a walk on the beach. The previous high tide had washed up on the shore thousands upon thousands of starfish.

Seeing the young boy throwing the starfish one by one back into the sea, she asked: "Why waste your time? You will not make even the slightest difference in the myriad of starfish washed upon the shore here.”

The boy picked up and threw another starfish into the sea before replying: "It made a difference to him."
