Admission Guidelines
One need not be practicing a Christian lifestyle in order to come to
Beth-haran; however, you should realize three things before applying to
come:
-
You will be coming to live with a Christian family and will be
studying the Bible and a Bible based curriculum.
-
We believe that deliverance from addictions and self-destructive
behavior will be had in a life submitted to Jesus Christ.
-
You will be expected to apply the teachings of Jesus Christ to your
life during your stay at Beth-haran.
The most important requirement for admission is that the person truly
sees the need for change in her life and sincerely desires help to that
end.
The prospective student must read the Admission Guidelines (this
page), Beth-haran’s Discipleship Program
and the House Rules carefully. She must
understand our expectations and guidelines and agree to abide by them
completely.
Because we are talking about the possibility of spending up to one
year of your life at Beth-haran, we strongly encourage an interview in
person at our home. It is beneficial to us, the prospective student, and
her sponsor to be able to sit down and talk face to face. However, if
distance or other circumstances absolutely preclude this, we can arrange
a telephone interview.
After the interview, the individual will normally be asked to call
back within two days to find out whether or not we have accepted her
into our discipleship program.
Privacy of information
Before God, we seek to respect and honor each student and the
information they entrust to us, however some of this information may be
communicated to interns, our pastor as he counsels us and in some cases, sponsors. This kind of
communication is not taken lightly and only happens if, in our judgment,
it is appropriate and beneficial. You will need to trust our judgment in
this matter. If you demand strict and exclusive confidentiality between
you and the person with whom you meet, Beth-haran is not the right place
for you.
Things that may be difficult
You might as well know at this point what students may find difficult
to adjust to in our home:
Coverage - see under House Rules #1.
No smoking is permitted by staff, volunteers, or students. (Look
at this as one of the victories you will have while staying here)
Eating oatmeal for breakfast.
The work portion of our discipleship program: perhaps 30 hours
per week.
General lack of privacy and personal space. Life in a dormitory
setting.
Structured schedule and restrictions on freedom. Learning not to
be selfish.
Taking orders from the staff, living with a variety of people and personalities,
in a different home structure than you may be used to.
Having your words and behavior addressed head on.
No artificial means of deadening emotions such as drugs, alcohol,
music, TV/video games.
This is an explicitly Christian family.
Isolated living conditions, outside of the city limits, not
holding down a job, etc..,
Cost and sponsors
Because Beth-haran is a faith ministry, no fees are charged. We ask
each student to have a sponsor who is the contact person in emergencies
and is committed to help the student with expenses related to travel,
medical needs and personal expenses. (See Sponsor Form for details on
what is involved in sponsoring a student.) Personal expenses run about
$35.00 (the actual amount is between you and your sponsor) per month. We
are happy to discuss our expectations of the sponsor in more detail with
whoever might fill that role. If finding a sponsor is a problem, let us
know on your application or in the interview and we will explore the
possible options to address this need.
What to bring with you
Special requirements
Students will be required to sign a liability waver, which basically
says you will not sue us except for cases of gross negligence or willful
misconduct.
Students must provide funds to cover their own medical needs,
including doctor's visits, medicine, dental visits, etc. Your sponsor
must handle insurance reimbursement and paperwork.
If you suffer from any chronic illnesses that may cause you to be
unable to participate in the discipleship program, Beth-haran may not be
the place for you.
If you have immediate medical needs, you are expected to take care of
them before you come to Beth-haran.
Be sure to let us know before you arrive at Beth-haran if you have
any special health requirements or diet restrictions.
Be sure to let us know in the application or interview if you have
any other special requirements.
