House Rules

Coverage
Students will be with a staff person at all times during their first
month.
New students may not talk to other students without coverage.
No student may leave the property at anytime without staff
permission.
Children
We at Beth-haran desire to provide a safe place for children living
and visiting here. In order to do this we have set the following
boundaries for parents, staff, interns, and students to follow.

No student is allowed to touch any child until she is given
permission by one of the child's parents.

No student, volunteer or visitor may pick up a child without the
parents prior explicit approval.

No student, volunteer or visitor may be alone with a child at any
time in any room.
Occult or New Age
All activity related to the occult or 'new age' movement (astrology,
crystals, tarot cards, etc.) is forbidden.
Smoking, Drinking, Illegal Substances
Smoking is not permitted at Beth-haran.
No alcohol is permitted at Beth-haran
Illegal substances are grounds for immediate dismissal
Speech
We desire to protect you from destructive speech and to teach you to
build others up. Therefore:
No threats of violence, or taunting to provoke violence will be
tolerated at all.
No sarcasm, ridicule or joking at the expense of others.
No intimidating other students.
Talk respectfully to those in authority.
No complaining or unconstructive criticism.
No gossip.
Avoid arguments.
No vulgar or foul language.
No sexually explicit or suggestive talk.
No talking boastfully of past sin.
No discussing your past life unless it will build up and encourage
others.
Let no corrupt communication proceed out of
your mouth, but that which is good to theuse of edifying, that it
may minister grace unto the hearers. Eph 4:29
Dress and Appearance
Do not bring any jewelry or clothing, which symbolizes connections
with destructive elements in your past.
Each person is responsible for her own personal hygiene.
Neatness and cleanliness are required.
Time limits on showers may be imposed if necessary.
Shoes are to be worn during work crew.
It is expected that students and interns will dress modestly. See
admission guidelines for suggestions on what clothing to bring.
The housemother will have the final decision on whether something is
immodest.
In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel,
with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or
pearls, or costly array; 1st Timothy 2:9
Media: Music, Movies, Pictures and Reading Material
All music must be approved. If you may submit very many CD/tapes for
approval it may take a while for them to be approved. Do not bring any
burned CDs/audio tapes.
Silence has predominance.
Music only between hours of 9 am and 9 pm.
No head phones, walkmans or personal boom boxes are allowed.
All reading material is subject to staff approval.
All pictures must be approved.
All VHS, DVD and television programs will be approved by houseparents
before viewing. An intern holds the remote.
Casting down imaginations, and every high thing
that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into
captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; 2nd Corinthians
10:5
Food
Be on time for meals.
Appropriate table manners are expected. If these are unclear to you,
we will explain the guidelines.
Everyone will maintain a healthy intake of food. The housemother will
make this determination.
Students with eating disorders may have eating restrictions.
Use restraint and consideration for others in determining the amount
of food that you take.
No personal food items may be brought to the table. If you require a
specialized diet, discuss this before you arrive at Beth-haran.
No raiding the refrigerator or cupboards between meals.
No food in bedrooms, without prior permission from the housemother.
Daily Duties
Each day:
Make bed before breakfast
Pick up clothes
Brush teeth
Keep closet clean and neat
Keep bathroom tidy
Work detail as designated
Everyone is expected to take care of their own clothes and personal
belongings. Put your things away. This includes keeping towels,
washcloths, wet clothes, shoes, jackets and laundry in appropriate
places.
Take care of the property and facilities at Beth-haran.
After using equipment, always return it to its proper place.
Turn off lights when you are the last to leave a room.
Bulletin boards are for pictures and posters. Do not hang anything
directly on the walls.
Daily Activities
Everyone is to participate in the following activities unless given
special permission by a staff person.
Church and devotional services
Bible studies and other classes
Work detail
Meals
Special Events
When a special need arises, your cooperation in doing extra duties
will be expected and appreciated.
Please be on time, all restroom needs are to be attended to
before an
activity.
Curfew
The times to get up and go to bed are strictly adhered too.
No talking after lights out.
No leaving bed except to use the bathroom.
Sickness
Anyone who is sick must be excused by a staff member before missing
work, Bible study or other activity.
Students who are sick may experience appropriate restrictions.
All medications and supplements will be kept locked up and will be
made available to students as needed or prescribed.
Christian Relating
Students must respect the person in authority in whatever setting.
If you disagree with what you have been asked to do, be willing to do
it anyway and then discuss the matter later with the houseparents.
If you genuinely feel that something that you are being asked to do
is unsafe, immoral or illegal, an appeal is to be made directly to any
houseparent or person in charge of the particular task. If this issue is
not resolved to your satisfaction report the matter to the housefather.
Students are not allowed to develop romantic relationships while in
the discipleship program.
Hands off at all times. Mixed non-contact sports are allowed when a
staff member is present.
ANY physical contact such as slapping someone or shaking them by
their shoulders when angry will end the student’s stay at Beth-haran
immediately.
Out of love for your neighbor, notify a staff member when you
see anyone engaging in any dangerous or destructive behavior, feeling extremely
troubled or about to leave.
Report any drugs or other inappropriate material on the property
immediately.
For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even
in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. Galatians 5:14
Private Property
Each person has a private space that is not to be violated by other
students.
The houseparents bedroom is off-limits except by invitation.
Respect the rights, privacy, needs and belongings of other students.
Do not take, use or borrow another person's belongings without their
prior and express permission.
Do not lend any item that you are not able to cheerfully part with.
Personal Items
Housemother may inspect a student's belongings at any time.
All student belongings will be searched upon arrival at Beth-haran
and may be searched on departure.
Students are not allowed to have personal cars, motorbikes, bicycles,
knives, pets, radios, stereos, cell phones, computers or TV's during
their stay at Beth-haran.
Beth-haran is not responsible for personal belongings left after you
leave. Unless shipping or pick-up arrangements are made, any personal
belongings you leave, may be placed in donations after your departure.
Town Runs
Students are required to make a list of desired items; this list is
to be approved before shopping.
All students must stay with staff members in the store and check out
together.
Students are required to save receipts and turn in their left over
money.
Personal Finances
A sponsor’s Check must be made out to the student. After the student
endorses her check the money will then be put into her individual
account.
Spending money will be allocated and monitored by the houseparents.
All students have an account with Beth-haran. All money must be turned
in to the houseparent to be kept in her account.
No students are allowed to hold money during their first month at Beth-haran. After this period, permission will be given when the
houseparents believe the student has become responsible with finances.
Students are required to turn in receipts for anything bought on
visits or for personal use.
Money that is provided by a sponsor will be returned to the sponsor
if you decide to leave Beth-haran.
How the money from disability checks provided by the state are to be
handled will be resolved before coming to Beth-Haran. Our philosophy is
that Christians should not take money from the state.
Phone Calls
Students do not have phone privileges during the first month at
Beth-haran.
Students do not answer incoming calls without houseparent’s
permission.
After their first month students are allowed twenty minutes of phone call
time per week.
More time may be given for a student involved in a child’s life.
More time may be given as a privilege built on trust.
Calls are limited to approved family members, your sponsor and
additional individuals that are approved by the houseparents.
Phone calls may be monitored by a houseparent.
Any person leaving Beth-haran before completing their commitment will
not be allowed contact with the students remaining at Beth-haran.
Mail
We encourage letter writing.
During the trial period you will be required to open packages
and letters in the presence of an intern. After this time, you may
earn the privilege of opening mail without coverage.
No outgoing emails. You may receive emails from sponsors and approved
family and friends.
Visits
No visitors during the trial period.
Visits must be cleared in advance through a houseparent. This means all visitors
will be pre-approved by the houseparents. No boyfriend
visits.
Students may not leave the property during their visits without prior
permission from houseparent.
The use of alcohol, or smoking is prohibited by visitors while on visits.
Visitors must have permission in advance to remain after visiting
time or for family activities.
Equipment & Machinery
Students may not operate vehicles, machinery, or power equipment
until the housefather has given them special and specific permission.
