Intern Information and Guidelines
Beth-Haran (the Hebrew word for House of Grace) is
a Christ centered ministry conceived as a response to the need of
hurting young people. It is time the church to return to the simplicity
of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and use His teachings as a role model for
a healing ministry. This is the vision of our ministry, it is Jesus who
heals, we are only a vessel.
Intern Job description
Discipling Students
It is important in helping the students that come
to us is that they live and work along side people who are ‘living
testaments’ in word and deed. This is where the intern is most
effective. As an intern, you will live with the students in the dorm
(most likely three girls to a room) and carry out the functions of daily
living along with them. It is in this setting of everyday life, with the
little trials and victories that come, where you will have the
opportunity to lead, encourage and speak into their lives for Christ.
Providing Coverage
All students will be placed on a one-month trial
period before they are accepted into the yearlong discipleship program.
During this time the student will need to be covered 24-7. The actual
amount of time individual interns will spend on coverage varies
depending on current needs and resources. The houseparents and other
volunteers will be available for coverage as well. Since the students
will have work detail and classes during the day, the person in charge
of these events will provide coverage. At night, after lights out,
the primary coverage will be the intern.
Correcting Students
Discipline is for the benefit of a student.
Discipline and correction, resulting from violation of accepted
boundaries and behavior are also part of the interns job description.
You will have a part of giving correction in the form of additional
work, homework, or restriction from special activities. We will work
with you to discipline the students and try to counsel you on the best
disciplinary measures you can take to fit the disobedience. If an issue
concerning discipline needs to be addressed with an intern, it should
ONLY be done when students are not present. Interns will correct any
staff person (houseparent of volunteer) who is not following this
guideline. The staff will absolutely stand behind the interns and visa
versa. It is our belief that if an intern can be trusted with the care
of a student, she can be trusted to discipline students properly.
Intern Schedule
Besides being involved the daily work schedule as
needed, you will be required to attend and be a part of the following:
Weekly Staff Meeting
Though we will always be available to our interns,
we will have a weekly staff meeting. This is to give our interns and
volunteers opportunity to express their concerns, and talk together
about solutions. We will also go over schedules for the week and adjust
any house rules, if necessary. If you are frustrated be sure to bring up
your concerns. Usually we cannot read minds. Dealing early with problems
will result in a much more pleasant and effective time for all.
Special Activities
Interns will be expected to attend church with the
rest of the family. Except on their day off, interns are expected to
attend Bible studies and any special activities that are required of the
students.
Classroom
We feel that interns, actually all Christians, are
students who are growing. We hope some of the classes that are offered
to students will also be beneficial to our interns as well.
Time off
Daily times off will we scheduled, during the
weekly staff meeting. The amount of time off will vary as our resource
permit. Interns will have one day per week off. Staff members will
rotate days off so that there is sufficient coverage at all times.
Interns will have 4 weeks off per year. You may take this time as you
wish, however advance notice is necessary and will make it possible for
the house to function while you are gone.
Intern Expectations
No unedifying entertainment.
No music that may provide a stumbling block to the
students is allowed.
No videos or movies that portray violence or
fornication as pleasurable or desirable, even if they are only rated PG.
Casting down
imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the
knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the
obedience of Christ; - 2nd Corinthians 10:5
Accountability
The discipleship program at Beth-haran depends on
mutual accountability. We believe Jesus wants us to live as an example
for the students. Everyone including the houseparents will be
accountable to each other.
Confess your
faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be
healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth
much.
- James 5:16
Your Reward
Thank you for considering the position of intern.
As Jesus said in Matthew 23:11: “But he that is greatest among you
shall be your servant.” It is the commitment of our interns that
make this ministry work. As an intern we want you to experience the joy
of discipling a student and watching the changes come over her life. We
believe that you will also find Beth-haran a place where you can grow
closer to the Lord. For these two reasons, if you should decide to come
on board, we hope this will be one of the most rewarding years in your
life.
Application Process
Commitment
We have a one-month trial period for interns (as
well as students). It is difficult to commit to anything longer without
actually seeing our program. After the trial period we would like a
one-year commitment, if possible. It is difficult for us to commit to
our students if our interns are not committed to us.
